My great-mother lived through 3 centuries. She was born in the 1800s and passed away in the 2000s. It was from 1898 to 2000 to be exact. She was 103 when she passed away.

It truly is remarkable. What is equally as remarkable was that my grandfather was 80 years old when his mom passed away. Many people don’t even live to see 80 years old and he still had his mom!

DOUBLE Her Life Expectancy

Back when she was born in 1898, the life expectancy was about 48! She surpassed that by more than double. There was no planning for that back then. She was really fortunate though. She lived on her own well into her 90s.

Most people are not so lucky.

Failure in Healthcare

We have significantly increased the human lifespan, but we have failed at increasing the healthspan.

Lifespan is how long you are living. Healthspan is the length of time you are healthy.

With kids suffering from Type 2 Diabetes and chronic disease at all-time highs and occurring at younger and younger ages, we might have improved on treating these diseases to avoid death, but it has not improved our health.

For those of you who are reading this email, statistically, your life expectancy is at least 80 years old and that number increases every year you stay alive from this moment on.

Knowing that you have that many years left, what are you going to choose to do differently today. Your habits today determine your future.

With an increase in medical technology, we are getting really good at keeping people alive longer in a chronic diseased state, but we are failing at getting and keeping people healthy.

Aging Gracefully

Aging is a normal part of life, but it doesn’t have to be ugly.

If you need a little more motivation, take a look at any long-term care facility. It is heart-wrenching to see how so many people are living in their later years.

Allow this to be your “Scrooge Future” moment.

We know the outcome if things don’t change.

I would love for you to be 103 and for your kids to still have their parents.
