Low Back Pain

Getting to the source of your back pain

Chiropractic for Low Back Pain

The mental and physical suffering due to low back pain can only be appreciated by those who have experienced it. It affects every aspect of our life. It affects our golf game, our work, and time with our families. It drains our energy and spills over into every aspect of our lives.

I am speaking from experience. A couple of years back, I had an injury in the gym that left my low back in debilitating pain. I couldn’t bend down, I couldn’t carry anything, and I could barely dress myself. Just putting on my shoes was exhausting and terribly painful. I never appreciated the little things like walking and even tying my shoes as much as when I went through this experience.

The reason why I share this with you is to let you know if you are suffering from low back pain, you are not alone. Myself and thousands of others have been through what you have gone through and found tremendous relief with our unique type of chiropractic care.

For as long as I can remember due to the nature of my work, I’ve experienced pain in my neck, shoulders and back, even my lower back were all stiff and aches and pains were like part and parcel of my life. About 2 years ago I started getting headaches. I also had a very bad cough and started feeling breathless and tired all of the time. I saw a specialist, had a lung function test, and an x-ray that showed a nodule at the end of my left lung. I was then diagnosed with asthma was put on an inhaler. I was sad and felt old and sick.

I met Dr Matthew Westheimer who introduced me to chiropractic treatments. I immediately signed up for a consultation and my first adjustment was amazing. My whole body felt so light and the stiffness in my neck and back subsided almost instantly. I am now able to turn my neck from side to side with such ease. I sometimes get a warm and tingling sensation after my adjustment and I am confident with continued treatment by Dr Matthew I’m going to be as good as new! I am also breathing so much better now and I don’t use the inhaler anymore.

Thank you so much Dr Matthew. I’m grateful!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is low back pain normal?

Short answer: NO. While low back pain is one of the most common conditions that people suffer from, it is not normal. The problem with our healthcare system is that we have normalized sickness and dysfunction. Just because it is common does not mean it is normal. Cavities are common, but they are not normal. Heart attacks are common, but they are not normal. Type 2 diabetes is common, but it is not normal. We need to stop normalizing sickness and start giving people the tools to heal.

Who should I see for low back pain?

A great first line of defense would be to see a chiropractor who specializes in structural correction. As a structural chiropractor, we would do a thorough exam and find out the exact cause of your pain. If it is a muscular issue, you might be recommended for physical therapy or massage therapy. If there is a fracture or something more insidious, a surgical consult might be recommended. However, if it is a structural issue with the spine or nerve system, which we would be able to determine during the examination, then there is no better place to create a long term solution for your problem than a structural chiropractor.

Why is it when I take pain killers or muscle relaxers my pain goes away but then comes back?

Because the medication is reducing and covering up the pain but is not getting to the source of the problem. Whenever we have pain that doesn’t self-resolve, we have to be diligent about finding out where the source of that pain is coming from. If not, we might feel better temporarily but your body is breaking down in the meantime. The longer the problem is there, the more the body breaks down, and the harder it will be to correct.

How long will it take for my low back pain to go away?

Many of our patients notice an improvement with their low back pain in relatively short period of time. Usually a handful of adjustments over a period of a couple of weeks can have a positive effect. However, getting to the CAUSE of the problem and getting that fully corrected takes more time and is really dependent on each person and their unique situation, history, and lifestyle. We do a comprehensive assessment and provide you thorough and realistic solutions if we can help you so you feel confident and comfortable with our approach. If we don’t believe we can help you, we will make the necessary referral to get you in the hands of the right practitioner for your specific situation.
