How corrective chiropractic care can help with ADD/ADHD

Chiropractic for ADHD

Do you ever find it a challenge to get your children to concentrate and focus on their schoolwork? Do you find yourself having difficulty focusing on your work? The overwhelming majority of the time the default diagnosis for people suffering from this issue is ADD/ADHD, or Attention Deficit Disorder / Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The treatment is rarely more than just living with it or medication.

What if there was another way to improve this situation without drugs or medication? The top two improvements parents report to us when their kids begin chiropractic care is improved immunity and better focus and concentration.

How could this be? How could chiropractic care, correction of the spine, and optimization of the spine and nerve system address focus and concentration issues?

The answer is quite simple. The spine and nerve system regulate and coordinate all of the functions in the body. Not only do the nerves transmit information to the organs, muscles, and tissues, but it also sends information up to the brain for processing. If the spine and nerves are not in great working condition you get noxious, or negative, information sent to the brain which can create processing issues. This can lead to an inability to focus and concentrate.

While chiropractic is not a treatment for ADD/ADHD, when we can optimize the function of the nerve system we usually see a dramatic improvement in our patients’ ability to focus and concentrate.

I initially started seeing Dr. Matt for my extricating pain on my lower back! Unbelievably, I am able to walk perfectly and sleep well after my “first” adjustment with Dr. Matt. Thereafter I am ever convinced by chiropractic care. Have been conscientiously getting my adjustments regularly and taking note of my posture and back exercise, which aids to the care of my spines.

There is no credible reason to support why I should commence my children with chiropractic since there isn’t any complaint of pain or any slouching nor bad posture. But of course I have evidently experience my adjustment and it improves my daily lives, so why not I invest the wellness care to my children! The care is to manipulate the spines of any healthy children for any subluxation correction. Or even such subluxations even exist!

Dr. Matt has been very attentive to children of all ages. He does not necessarily treat or cure these conditions. Chiropractic is not the path to any antidote nor elixir of life. But all my three children have been significantly shown improvement in profound ways by treating common children suffering and enhancing their general health.

For Raphael, Age 13: he has been with Dr. Matt since last year. This is his second renewal sessions with him. He loves reading and as parents, we are worried with his consistent reading posture and his heavy school bags. With the care and adjustments, we saw the improvement in his posture. His myopia remains consistent for the past two years. He becomes more self-aware of his daily posture especially when they are also exposed to hand phone during teens.

For Racquel, Age 7: she has been suffering from high astigmatism since year 2013. A week ago she had her annual review with her regular pediatrician eye specialist, we saw a dip in her astigmatism. It may sounds too good to be true but as parents, we felt chiropractic has in one way or another help her eyesight.

For Rashawn, Age 6: as a young toddler, he has been suffering from bad eczema, severe bronchitis and frequent cough and cold. With his regular adjustment with Dr. Matt, I do notice that his relapse of cough and cold has reduced. Not a sanity treatment, but realistically Rashawn seldom suffers from cough and even he does, his recovery is quicken. We saw improvement in his eczema.

Last year we refrained him from swimming mainly due to the chlorine, which aggravates his skin condition. Amazingly, with his weekly adjustment with Dr. Matt, he is now able to swim! Even a weekly affair at the pool is a joy and a luxury for him! He simply loves the sun, the pool and the water.

Frequently Asked Questions

ADD / ADHD

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), are conditions where an individual has a very difficult time paying attention, focusing, being easily distracted, and staying on task. What is fascinating about ADHD is that this is usually manifested in school with kids that have a hard time sitting and focusing on their schoolwork. However, these same kids are able to hyper focus on other things that they find interesting. One theory is that many kids being diagnosed with ADHD just learn differently and we can’t keep trying to shove all kids into the same box of learning.

What causes ADHD?

True ADHD can be caused by brain injuries, toxins, exposure to chemicals in the womb like cigarettes and alcohol, and head trauma. Adaptive ADHD can be due to just preferring a different way of learning, or having different interests. It can also be because of interference or imbalance in the nerve system where the nerve system is ramped up and imbalanced like constantly having the foot on the gas pedal. If a car is redlining all the time, it will blow up the engine. A car needs a balance of break and gas in order for it to function well. A child with ADHD is like always having the gas pedal pinned to the floor.

Can chiropractic care help my child with ADHD?

By helping these kids to regulate their nerve system better through structural chiropractic it can make a massive impact in their lives. If the nerve system is really ramped up (gas pedal), we need to take the foot of the gas and add some braking (chiropractic). This helps to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve system for optimal function and balance. It can be transformative for these kids.

How will I know if structural chiropractic care can help my child with ADHD?

Great question. The way to determine if structural chiropractic care can help your child is with a thorough structural and chiropractic neurological examination. During that exam, if we find significant imbalances in the nerve system and structural system, then there is a great chance of us being able to help your child. If you’d like to schedule a complimentary 15-minute conversation with the doctor, we would be happy to answer any questions you might have and determine whether our office would be a good fit for you and your child.
