Degeneration, a.k.a. arthritis, is becoming more and more prevalent at younger and younger ages. Why is this so? “I thought degeneration or bone spurs are just a normal part of getting old? At least that is what I was told.” This is the most common response I get when I ask people what they think is the cause of bone spurs.
I then follow up with “If degeneration was just from age, why is your left knee more degenerated than your right knee, or why is only one area of your spine degenerated but the area right below it or above it is completely fine?” This question is usually followed by a blank stare.
The reality is that asymmetrical or uneven degeneration is not caused by aging alone. It is caused by unhealthy aging or accelerated aging due to abnormal alignment leading to excessive wear and tear.
Think about your car for a second. “Why would one tire wear out faster and more unevenly than the other tires? Is it due to age? Or is it due to abnormal wear and tear?” The answer is obvious.
Your body works the same way. Abnormal alignment and movement lead to excessive wear and tear which causes the body to break down faster. There is no supplement like calcium that can stop or reverse this process. The only way to stop or slow down this process is to correct the cause of the problem.
